Media Shows Up

  1. Always check BOE policy for action steps moving forward

  2. Contact and inform BOE.

  3. Remind staff that there is only one media spokesperson. If staff are approached by a media representative, they are to say that the Superintendent is the only district spokesperson

  4. Always have a jacket hanging in your office and toiletries on hand to freshen up so you look professional on camera.

  5. Have a “script” in your mind, ready to go. Know your talking points.

  6. Use the “Bump and Run” strategy–spin the situation into something positive. Share the basics and spin it into something that showcases the best outcome from a challenging situation.

  7. Ask journalist/media representative to review what will be shared on air or in the newspaper. They may not share but it never hurts to ask

  8. Debrief with Administrative Team

  9. Contact BOE regarding outcomes or updates.
