With over 30 years of experience in school communications, marketing, and public relations, Kim Root is a trusted expert in leading communication strategies that build public trust and drive measurable results for K-12 school districts.
Kim most recently served as the Executive Director of Communications, School Safety, and Strategic Initiatives for Huron Valley Schools in Oakland County, Michigan, where she led a full-service communications team and served as the district’s spokesperson for more than a decade. Her leadership helped launch major initiatives, including a full district website redesign, enhanced safety communications, and strategic messaging for district management.
One of Kim’s most notable achievements was leading the 2019 Bond and Sinking Fund campaign for Huron Valley Schools. The initiative generated more than $200 million for capital improvements and passed with over 70% voter approval—a testament to her strategic planning and community engagement skills.

Kim Root is also a recognized voice in the field. In 2021, she was invited to speak at the Michigan Association of School Boards Annual Leadership Conference, sharing her insights on school PR, bond campaigns, and community engagement.

ABOUT MARY ANN CYR
Retired Superintendent | K-12 Leadership Consultant | Bond Campaign Expert
Dr. Mary Ann Cyr brings over 30 years of experience in K-12 education, with a proven track record of leadership as a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Principal, and classroom teacher. Throughout her career, she has led schools and districts serving more than 6,200 students and 950 staff, shaping educational strategy at every level.
Dr. Cyr has served in a variety of Michigan school districts, including Monroe Public Schools, Taylor School District, Dearborn Heights District 7, Melvindale-Northern Allen Park, and Hamtramck Public Schools. Her areas of expertise span school administration, curriculum design, financial planning, school safety, and strategic communications.
One of her standout accomplishments includes leading bond campaigns totaling more than $150 million, successfully guiding districts through complex funding efforts with community trust and clear messaging. As a district spokesperson, she has also been the voice of transparency and leadership during times of change, growth, and crisis.
Today, Dr. Cyr is passionate about mentoring the next generation of school leaders. She works closely with the Michigan Association of School Administrators (MASA) to support aspiring superintendents—sharing practical guidance rooted in decades of hands-on leadership. In addition to her mentoring work, she serves as a lead consultant at K12 Media, where she supports crisis communication, client success, and strategic consulting for school districts across the U.S. Dr. Cyr is widely regarded as a thought partner and powerhouse resource for superintendents navigating complex challenges.

Dr. Cyr is also a respected speaker at education conferences, known for her insight into real-world leadership, effective staff relations, and building resilient, student-focused school systems.
