Staff Member Strikes a Student

  1. Always check BOE policy for action steps moving forward

  2. Make sure that Department of Health and Human Services (aka CPS) has been considered

  3. Contact SRO or police (in absence of SRO)

  4. Contact District Attorney

  5. Contact and inform BOE

  6. Conduct investigation, collect all witness statements

  7. Contact parent(s) of student

  8. Contact Union President of the staff member (if applicable)

  9. Place staff member on leave, if substantiated. Ensure the staff member has administrative leave letter

  10. Create a communication for the BOE and Admins

  11. Create a communication to the staff of that school

  12. Create a communication for all district parents

  13. Prepare statement/what to say to Media

  14. Finish investigation

  15. Consult with District Attorney regarding what steps are next

  16. Debrief situation with Admins.

  17. Contact the BOE regarding outcomes or updates
