Sexual Assault (Staff to Student)

  1. Always check BOE policy for action steps moving forward

  2. Make sure that Department of Health and Human Services (aka CPS) has been considered if necessary

  3. Contact and inform BOE

  4. Contact SRO or police in absence of SRO

  5. Conduct investigation, collect all witness statements

  6. Contact parents

  7. Contact District Attorney

  8. Contact Union President of the staff member (if applicable)

  9. Separate staff member–place on leave. Ensure the staff member has administrative leave letter

  10. Be prepared to answer to Media

  11. Finish investigation

  12. If guilty, be prepared to terminate the staff member

  13. If a teacher is terminated, contact MDE–follow guidance from attorney

  14. Debrief with Administrative Team
