Drugs Found on a Student

  1. Always check BOE policy for action steps moving forward

  2. Make sure that Department of Health and Human Services (aka CPS) has been considered if necessary

  3. Contact and inform BOE

  4. Contact SRO or police in absence of SRO

  5. Conduct student search with adult witness. Male/male, female/female

  6. Contact parents

  7. Begin investigation, collect witness statements if necessary or possible

  8. Suspend student per the Code of Conduct and contact teachers to create work for suspended student

  9. Follow-up with counselor for student support when student returns to school

  10. Ensure appropriate suspension letter has been sent home to parents of suspended student

  11. Contact the BOE regarding outcomes or updates
